In Regard to the Order for Continuing Education:
The Commonwealth Rules for CLE, Judicial Administrative Order #2001-5021 filed on April 18, 2005 requires all licensed attorneys to get 20 hours of CLE credits per reporting period. Credits earned in 2004 and 2005 must be reported by February 15, 2006.
Specifically, the Committee must approve credit hours for in-house presentations, teaching, and self-study (for activity not approved in
other jurisdictions). In order to obtain credit for such activity, please submit a written request with supporting exhibits to the Bar Association.
The committee will rule on the request at its next scheduled meeting.
The Committee is also required to create a form for the members to keep track of their credit hours and another form to submit to the Committee for reporting purposes. A 2006 CLE Certfication Form, for reporting period 2004-2005, is posted.
All active attorneys must retain all records from the CLE in case the Committee has a question and asks to review such records. The Committee will review all reports in February, 2006 and make an appropriate report to the Bar Association and to the Commonwealth Supreme Court. You are required to have 0.83 CLE credit hours per month if you are to pro-rate for the newly admitted attorneys.
The Committee is also required to catalog all available CLE tapes and other materials in the CNMI. If your office has such material, please send a list to the Bar Association. We are particularly interested in getting such information from government institutions such as the Court, the Legislature, and the Attorney General's Office.
